In and Within 22 Jesus' Prayer for Every Next Moment

Again we turn to Jesus’ teaching on prayer but we take a different passage. It’s short, only seventeen verses that include a four-word prayer (Jn.12:20-36), but it is the study of the context and the circumstance that builds our foundation for prayer.

So far I have given what I believe to be a thoughtful approach as to the nature of Jesus’ teaching on prayer in Mt.6. As in all teaching there are words that call for expanded exploration simply because they carry so much within them. In and Within 20 There's More to Intimacy Than Meets the Eye

Before we get started here we have to make it clear that the word ‘intimacy’ is not a standard word in the Bible. In the NIV it appears only 4 times, twice meaning physical closeness and twice in Job for close friendship. However what affection, closeness and God’s relational love mean in our day can be covered by this word. The word "intimacy" is rooted in Latin intimatus, to inform, to notify, first used in English in 1641 according to a Google search.

In and Within 19 The Pursuit of Intimacy

There’s all kinds of activity that pass for intimacy in this world but there is only one true intimacy and that is the kind proceeding from God as modeled in the person of Jesus His Son. In and Within 18 For Thine is the Kingdom

We have already briefly touched on the Kingdom back in “In and Within 11.” But now that Jesus is telling us to pray about it again we need to give it more than a brief look. In and Within 17 Ah Wilderness, Thy Name is Temptation

“And Lead Us Not Into Temptation, But Deliver Us From the Evil One.”

Jesus continues His teaching on prayer with this third Father-dependent clause, which is more than a request---it is a plea. It is a plea to the Father not to have to deal with temptation. In and Within 16 Matters of the Heart, It's the Heart That Matters

Second, forgiveness for our heart.

“Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”

It’s one thing to believe we ought to forgive. It is quite another to actually forgive. The first is a mind issue, the second is a heart and spirit issue.

In and Within 15 Food for the Mind, Think About It

On to the second part of Jesus’ teaching on prayer where we grow by becoming Father-dependent (Mt.6:11-14). In the last section on ‘will’ I got ahead of myself as I was delving into Jesus’ teaching on prayer. Actually, ‘kingdom’ comes before ‘will’ so let’s get into that word now.
