Wrath of God

I wonder at the wrath of God...you see bits and pieces of it in the scriptures. How and why does He hold it back, and when and why does His fury fly?

In Exodus 32 When Moses was on the mountiain the people broke thier covenant with God....So God told Moses that he was going to distroy them all and make of him {Moses} into a great nation. Moses reminded God of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob... and of the promise to make the descendants as numerous as the stars in the heaven and to give them all this land..."The Lord withdrew his threat and didn't bring against his people the disaster he had threateded."Ex. 32:14 NLT.........Does anyone see how we can apply this today ?
