Christmas 2009 Another Day Closer

We have just covered the Advent season as a time to tune up our minds, our hearts and our souls. Tuning up means to check out our spiritual condition as we near Jesus’ return. Are we believing spiritually, trusting spiritually and motivated by the Holy Spirit to faith?

When Jesus was born of a virgin it was to make very clear to the world that Jesus was already the Son of God who could enter the world only one way and that was by the pure, holy and righteous Spirit of God. It is the Holy Spirit who conceived the seed in Mary that became the Body into which Jesus was born. It was a spiritual conception. If He was to enter our humanity it would have to be without the cloudy intentions of sinful man, rather a child “...born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God (Jn.1:13).” This was done so that we could be born again (Jn.3:16) spiritually.

The importance of this is that it points to the way God thinks and works and that is spiritually. When God wants something to begin it is the Spirit who gets the job done. God is spirit. Everything seen and unseen has a prior spiritual context. All Creation, everything you see, came from a spiritual intention in God’s mind. Mankind was a spiritually intended creation with the idea of a spiritual relationship as the bond between man and God.

Jesus was what God had in mind for humanity to be, spiritually centered. Being conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ first motivation in thought, trust and belief was His Father’s spiritual will. His life was a dramatic illustration of spontaneous spiritually inspired thought and action. His teachings, miracles, ministry and mission were Holy Spirit led. The Holy Spirit was the Spirit of Jesus. His spiritual orientation is the reason He came to rescue us. He is the direct opposite of the way we think and act. Our first reactions are based on an entirely different spiritual motivation---sin and it’s pride, self-indulgence and fear. He came to deliver us from that spiritual trap into which we had fallen in Adam. He was the second Adam perfectly conceived in the flesh to bring us home, to our rightful place in God. Thus we have Christmas Scripture.

Matt.1:20 An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and he will be called Immanuel."—(Isaiah 7:14) The name Immanuel means "God with us."

Luke 1:30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."
34"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"
35The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37For nothing is impossible with God."
38"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus is where we really start. He is our true beginning and He will be our end, the Alpha and the Omega. We are another day, another year, and another Christmas closer to His return. Maranatha.

Stay tuned……..
