Jesus said, "Remember Lot's wife."
This challenging statement from Jesus gets us to the always present moment when a decision has to be made. Lot and his family were told by God to leave Sodom and Gomorra and when they left not to look back. Mrs. Lot looked back while she was on the way and turned into a pillar of salt as a result. Why did she look back? Memories, nostalgia, the good old days, fear of something new, the road ahead in the unknown?
Daily life is always encapsulated in the moment a choice and a decision have to be made. There are really only three alternatives. 1. Trust self (past experience and hope for the best) The salty pillar of regret, remorse, guilt or disillusion and disappointment immobilizes us 2. Trust friendly advice or 'experts' as a backdrop (their past experience) The same outcome may await due to their own salty issues 3. Trust in Jesus (The One who knows the present and how to approach every next moment) Here is the Lord in the invisible spiritual dimension whose guidance through it is always available in every present moment. He is the light in the darkness.

THESE WORDS SHOULD REMIND ALL OF US THAT IT WAS GOD WHO LED US TO WHERE WE ARE NOW AS A CHURCH. LOOKING BACK TO HOW THINGS USED TO BE OR TO THOSE BUILDINGS KEEPS SOME OF US FROM TRUSTING THAT GOD WILL LEAD US TO WHERE HE WANTS US TO SERVE. HE WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE THE LAMP UNTO OUR FEET.

These "Gems of Jesus" are truly His jewels!! Having grown up without knowing my father, it was just part of growing up without a father - that happens - until one day on a retreat He called me into prayer - Jeaus revealed to me so clearly and I heard - "IF YOUR EARTHLY FATHER HAD KNOWN ME HE WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU AS I DO AND WOULD NOT HAVE LEFT HIS FAMILY" - that is seeing the light!! Whitey, thanks for making our 'lil world a bright place! Rita

Addenda to the Gem. Someone asks, How do you know you can trust Him and how do you trust Him? First, He is the only one whoever died and rose from the dead to show He made it through the darkness and rose above it. Second, the record of His responses to each new moment in the invisible are recorded in the Bible. It seems interesting that the Psalmist long before Jesus understood that the Word is 'lamp unto my feet and light unto my path.' Just another little gem that points to Jesus' understanding of Himself as the light of the world. He really does have it together like no one else.
