When He Turned on the Light

Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night, and I have that feeling of edginess, the edginess of our aloneness.  That is, it is as if the Lord was getting my attention by the inner night the outer night implies within.  Last night was one of those inner moments of darkness when He chose to wake me to experience that inner sense of darkness into which He pours His light.  In this case it was who I am in Him, what I mean to Him and what He has given me.  Three words came together, grace, love and faith.  Basic, aren’t they?  He wanted me to know what His Word said and to pass it on.  The ‘why’ is for someone out there who needs it.  If not you, pass it on.

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.  And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:4-10).”

Grace gives us a real identity, our personal spiritual identity, a child of God made in His image (I AM) and likeness (love).  Each of us who believe in Him has our name written in the Book of Life eternal.

Love is real love, the spiritual relational nature of God given to those who are willing to accept it.  He has made us to be relational with Him and others.

Faith is the real power of God seen in the Cross of Jesus who, by faith, died and was raised from the dead to bring us His grace, love and faith which save us from sin’s eternal death and its aloneness.

Through the Holy Spirit His grace gives us our personal eternal identity, His love gives us our relational purpose and His faith gives us the power to live His life for others.

When you had no identity but what others in the world gave you, when you had no love but the affections and emotions that wither, when you had no faith other than in yourself and its despair, Jesus offered and continues to offer an eternal bond, Himself.

So, may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you and remain with you always. Amen
