Prayer for this day.
Heavenly Father, this day has started with rain and wind. What seems gloomy and threatening, where we anticipate that nothing good lies ahead, when the clouds seems endless, the sun hides and we are limited to the confines of walls and roofs,---penetrate our hearts. Help us to remember that rain is temporary and serves your purposes. Rain softens the soil, brings moisture to sprouting seeds that we may be fed, fills the lakes and the rivers bringing beauty and balance to its dry counterparts, cleans the surface and establishes the underground reservoirs for us to be refreshed. And the clouds Father, they gather at your will to bring us that rain but then drift across the sky and disappear after your will for them is accomplished. You said in your Word that your qualities could be seen in what you have made. As we look at the clouds and the rain we have a tendency to let darkness and its mood consume our present moment. We get that closed in feeling, the limited ability to move, to not be in control of circumstance, the frustrations of physical impairment, broken hearts, emotional and physical disease, economics and, again, the uncertainties about those we love. O Father, how soon we forget that there is always more than the present moment. There is eternity. There is always another moment you have provided for us. There is always after the rain when the clouds part and your Son stands on the horizon of our lives beckoning us to look up and see His outstretched hand. As we reach up and receive that hand, the light of His presence assures us that He was always there over the clouds making all things new and that all things work for the good of those who are called by His Name, that you were speaking through them to each of us. As your child in waiting I thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
