Heavenly Father, Your Son spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness to show us His heart, Your heart and the Heart of the Spirit. You sustained Him in the aloneness that is the wilderness through which we wander each and every day. He encountered all the hidden dynamics of the yearning of mind, body and emotion and still remained focused on you. For the many and for the few, for those whose life questions burn deep and those who are caught up in the whirl of problems and feel there is no out from the treadmill of survival, may we who know you stand for them in the invisible dimension in which these struggles take place. We lift their names to you now. You know us each Father and the needs of each heart. We would ask in your love that you would send your Holy Spirit to give the insight that you, as the author of the heart, know will bring it into focus as you open the door to whatever solution accords with you love and will. May our 40 days and 40 nights find us looking at Jesus' heart, the hearts around us and putting them together in prayer and the readiness to support them right where they are. We know that can be done because you did it for us. May Lent be more than the triteness of giving up something easy but rather taking on the focus on Jesus and His Word that rights our unright, clears our confusion and sensitizes us to focus on others whose heart's agonize alone and are far from you. May our Lent be hungering for and absorbing the Scripture for we recognize it as your doorway for your Spirit to let us see what is really going on around us. And may what we learn from this Lent be our heart style in the days after. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen

Thank you,Whitey for that prayer. The thing I plan to give up is my need to be right in an area of my life that I have been struggling with for several years.
Thank you, Whitey, for helping us (me!) stay on track! It is not about our sacrifices for Lent, it is about His one and perfect sacrifice! "I don't want your sacrifices-I want your love. I don't want your offerings-I want you to know Me." Hosea 6:6 (TLB)
Heavenly Father,Open my heart to your will. Open my mind to the teachings of Jesus.Open my heart to your love, because without it I am nothing. With it I am everything you want me to be. Paul tells us in Romans ! :17,"This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith." In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen
